What are some avenues veterans can explore to help with Home Care Services?
Veterans in El Paso, TX can look for help to cover home care services through many places, such as the VA community care program, the VA in-home respite care program, and the Aid and Attendance program. We can assist throughout the eligibility process.
The Homemaker and Home Health Aide Program offers essential home care services to veterans through local agencies. Available to all enrolled veterans who need assistance with daily activities and qualify for community care, this program helps veterans maintain their independence and quality of life at home.
Our agency is here to guide you through the process of accessing these valuable services. If you're a veteran in El Paso, this program is one of the best options for receiving personalized caregiving support. Let us assist you in navigating the steps to get the care you deserve!
The respite care program covers short-term care that is intended to give family caregivers a break. All veterans who are enrolled with VHA standard medical benefits and have a clinical need for services are eligible for these benefits. The program does not cover many hours with the average being 2.5 days of care per month with a maximum of six hours at a time.
You can find more about the program from the VA here.
The Aid and Attendance Program is a tax-free pension that helps Veterans and their surviving spouses pay for ongoing, out-of-pocket medical costs. This includes home care for veterans and surviving spouses.
This program is different from military retirement and VA respite hours. The great news is that VA respite hours can be used in addition to the Aid and Attendance program.
To qualify for Aid and Attendance, a veteran must have served active-duty during a wartime, they must require assistance with an activity of daily living, and their net worth must be less than $155,000. This excludes one home, one car, and two acres of land.
For a surviving spouse to qualify, they must meet the above qualifications as well as have been married to the veteran for one year, married to the veteran at the time of death, and not remarried.
ADL stands for "Activities of Daily Living." These are basic tasks of living such as bathing, grooming, dressing, transferring, toileting, and medication reminders.
After your application is submitted, you will be contacted by a representative who will begin to gather all the necessary documents and information needed to determine your eligibility.
The needed documents will vary, but common documents required can include military discharge papers, copies of income benefits letters such as Social Security or retirement, proof of all assets such as bank statements, proof of medical insurance premiums, and marriage and death certificates as appropriate for each case.
The VA requires several forms, so be prepared for some paperwork. However, the benefits of this program have proved to be extremely helpful to veterans and their surviving spouses.
As soon as the required documents and forms are submitted to the VA for review, it may be possible to begin care for your approved hours. This process can take around a month or longer.
Our office can walk you through the process of applying for the aid and attendance program and assist you with any questions you may have concerning VA benefits and coverage.
